A four-person selection committee made up of representatives from John Maher Builders and the Williamson Herald will consider nominations for a male and female scholar athlete of the month submitted from the schools, coaches or students families. The committee will weigh each nominee on the basis of grade point average, leadership qualities, community service, athletic competition and a submitted essay (written by the nominator) about the student. In May, a banquet will be held to honor all the winners, their parents and coaches.
"As a former coach and teacher I believe strongly in recognizing the accomplishments of scholar athletes,” Maher said. “Not only do they train to be winners on the field or the court but they must also put extraordinary effort into be being winners in the classroom as well."
"We were very proud to be associated with the Scholar Athlete Awards last school year and look forward to doing so again this year,” he said. “When I got to see those outstanding young people and their parents at the (2006) awards banquet it made me proud to have John Maher Builders associated with an award that honored their tremendous accomplishments."
